Well the upgrade has been completed and the site runs better than ever. All useful mods were installed without a problem. I added support for the original style plus two others. The proSilver style is working fine. The aktif style works fine but needs some graphics fine tuning. We have also added a very nice Sudoku game mod that I am sure all sudoku fans will love and a fun Hangman game. In all it was well worth the time it took me to do.

I have also hired on a new Community Leader. He is basically a head moderator but with extra duties. He will work on hiring some new faces to the forum to help out and as the community grows and the need arises he will create new groups or bring in new moderators or whatever the site may need. We are getting a lot more traffic as of late so I see a very nice future in store for our forum.

The main site itself Empire of Shadows will be expanding in the next few months as well. I will save more of those details for a later post though as I work them all out :)

Well I rolled out the upgrade the other day and everything seems to be working great. I added support for 2 new styles as well. The proBlack style is finished (I think hehe). I will begin on finishing up the prosilver style. Mostly just getting some of the icons to match. Then during the next week I will complete the new Aktif style. Mostly the same with it being the icons and such. It also needs a bit of formatting work but still looks great and is very functional atm.

The best thing about the upgrade is it got rid of a lot of unneeded and unused code still left behind from one thing or another. The forum should run a bit faster and for smoothly. Plus upgrading is always good for security :) I did it right this go around as I had to go back and reinstall every mod from scratch. I used Automod to track all changes so that they can easily be undone or fixed if something goes wrong.

Overall I hope that our users will have a better experience overall. And hopefully I squished the very annoying “Welcome PM” bug :)

We are very close to the update. I would estimate we are 80% done with the mod updates that can be seen on the regular users side. Once we are closer to or at 100% I would be more inclined to go ahead and push it to release. The mods that work behind the scenes I am not worried about at all. What I want to see are the interactions with the new styles and I especially want to get the “Graphics Modifications” rolling on them. We have a lot of special and modified graphics for certain features and mods that were meant for our one style. Now that we are going to support the 2 extra styles we have to work out graphics for them as well. While our forum is doing great and is always growing atm we do not have a graphics team so I will seek help from other sources I know but for them to do their best then they will have to see things in working order as they are meant to be. If your like most at first and stick with the default style we have then you will see the forum as we have built it. If you choose to try out the new styles then you will notice MINOR mis-matches with the graphics as we complete each styles graphics set. After the update we will of course be going through a feedback and tweaking phase but nothing should disrupt the functionality at all. Thanks for sticking through with us and I hope you like me can’t wait to see the new Dragon’s Lair.

The update is coming along nicely for the forum.  We have only run into one snag so far which slowed us down a bit but we are back on track. The most difficult thing about this is because we are supporting two extra themes all mod edits need to be expanded to include them as well. One way to track the progress is to check here at the forum. As I install the mods I am updating that list. Things will speed up significantly soon though. I am doing the larger more complex mods first and then will do the easy ones which won’t take near as long. Well I will keep you all up to date on the changes and the progress. Hopefully we can begin using it in a few days.

It has come time for me to stop putting this off. We are now 2 versions behind the newest release and the further I let it go the harder it will be to do down the road. Hopefully you will not encounter any down time but you will most likely come across missing stuff here and there until I get it all together.

It will be done in 1 of 2 ways which I am testing on my test board before I do it on the live board.

  1. First would be to use the auto updater which comes with the software. However our board is so heavily modified I see the potential for A LOT of problems
  2. Second would be to start clean. Back up the database and then do a fresh install. Then use the old database so we keep all our posts/threads/users and so forth. This way is potentially the best option for our forum. The downside is I will have to reinstall each mod one by one until we get the board back to “normal”. However the upside to this is a cleaner and more stable board AND more importantly we would have the ability to support a few extra styles.

As you can see either way is going to be a daunting task for me but in the end it is for the betterment of our community.

In an on going effort to increase the popularity of our site/forum I want to lay out a few of the things going on.

First is an ongoing referral contest with $50 in total prizes. That means that 5 people will win $10 each. Rules and such are laid out in the topic on our forum.

Second, we are trying to come up with some ideas for a contest related to our gallery. I would like to expand our gallery and a good way I think to do that would be to hold some sort of contest related to it. I am looking for any ideas related to it and if I choose to use your idea I will send you $5 via PayPal.

Finally we are hiring!! Thats right. We are looking for 1-2 active people to hep moderate the forum and help provide a friendly environment for our users.

As you can see we are always trying to improve our community and always try to include our users in these decisions and include their ideas. So stop by today and see if we have anything to offer that may interest you.

We are seeking 1-2 active people to help moderate and be active. Although it began as a gaming forum it has evolved a great bit. So you do not have to be an avid gamer. Simple requirements are be friendly and mature :) You can send me a message or comment on this if interested.

Well it has been a while since we have been here. Since before the “big crash”. I have decided to bring our news back here and talk about some of our expansions since last we were here.

Well now lets get down to a quick report of whats going on. Our forum seems to be doing good at the moment. Many visitors a day and the sign ups come at a rate of 1-2 every 2 or 3 days. We are still working on turning all those sign ups into active posters but we still do ok with activity. I think the thing is to get people to realize just how diverse the forum is and get them participating. That’s why I have come up with several contests the past few months. They may have relatively small prizes ($5 – $15) usually but they can still be fun none the less. A bit more on those later :)

Now the mother site Empire of Shadows is still in the concept phase really. I of course want to try to keep it in theme with the forum. Mainly gaming but I would also like to incorporate the Technology subject into that. Being Software, Hardware, and technology in general. This all really remains to be seen as to how it will develop.

Empire Hostings is really a dream come true of mine. It’s a small business but its mine none the less. It could be considered a hobby but one I plan to stick with for a long time to come. I want our hosting to be a place that the “noobs” can feel comfortable. Those who have 0 experience but want to begin their own “presence on the web”. Also for a small hosting company I feel our prices are very cheap.

Well that’s a quick summary to date of where things stand with the Empire of Shadows site and its “children” you may call them. Its probably odd to have the children up and running before the parent hehe. If your interested in any way we hope to see you at our forum or setting up your hosting with us.
